Traditional Welsh Basket, The Cyntell

The Cyntell is a frame basket formed around a thick, dried willow or hazel hoop, with split and shaped willow ribs which is then woven with willow. The basket was made by farmers and used as a multi functional basket used around the farm to carry anything from harvest crops to washing and even babies. This two day course will teach you all the skills needed to make these beautiful baskets and you will also learn all about the history from one of the legendary Cyntell makers, Les Llewelyn who has now retired from teaching but is passionate about keeping the skills for the making of the Cyntell alive. Courses cost £160 and includes all materials used. The course will take place in Penllyn Village Hall, Penllyn, Cowbridge CF71 7RQ.
