Using English willow Christine produces various baskets for the home, tepees, and plant supports in the Spring. Undertakes some unusual commissions, repairs to various baskets/handles/flat cane binding. Also gives talks with a slide presentation, using BA slides, and demonstrates basket-making at clubs, shows and craft events. She runs her own beginners/intermediates group basket-making workshops twice a year with many repeat students. Also teaches ‘one-to-one’ students at home studio.

Christine also does chair re-seating using freshwater rushes.

Techniques:   For all types of baskets, garden and plant supports and other items in willow.  Repairs to old baskets, old toys i.e willow prams, & skeined willow on handles etc.

Willow work techniques for Stake and Stand baskets – all shapes. Weaves include:- Pairing, French and English Rand, Slewing, Wale. Methods of joining rods, handles, twisting up rods.  Various Borders on round, oval and square baskets.  Fitching,  lids, ledges, and dividers.  Skeining and using skeining tools.

Willow techniques for Frame baskets, hoops, scalloms, weaves, packing, God’s Eyes, Celtic Knot etc.

Rush seating techniques –  Re-newing chair seating using Dutch and English rushes. Learning all joins inc. half-hitch and reef knots.  Coiling rushes, keeping square corners, calculating position of centre, using a rush needle and smoothing with a dolly.

Cane Seating – Repair work done on patio/sun lounge furniture binding with split cane showing joining cane, binding etc.  Cane repair work on baskets handles etc.
