Ruth Cereceda

Hailsham, Hailsham, East Sussex, Bn27 Biography

Ruth Cereceda is an artist and designer since 2000, when she finished her training as Technical Engineer in Industrial and Interior design, and her university studies in Art History.

Her interest in the handmade craft-work of ancient cultures, and in the transition between high and decorative art resulted in Weavetry, the brand she created in 2019, after further extending her learning into weaving and natural fibres conservation and manipulation.

Ruth's designs explore the possibilities of one of the most versatile natural fibres - wool. Her practice is inspired by nature as experienced and recreated by memory, and her objects serve as containers of an abstract language that transmit the meditative effects of gentle and repetitive motions.

Sustainability plays a key role in her design practice. By using recycled wool, together with renewable and eco friendly materials such as cork or rattan, Ruth is able to develop a low impact artistic activity, while putting in value the role of ancestral craft practices in contemporary design.

Ruth grew up in Spain and currently lives in the UK, where she is a professor in Art History with an interest in experiential education, fields that feed into her craft, design and artistic language.
