‘Psychology and the basketmaker

Psychology is defined as a Study of the Normal. When I went on a course run by the Basketmakers’ Association at Woodrow High House last summer I wanted to look for the normal basketmaker. My definition of the normal basketmaker was a middle aged lady, a W.I. member: we all know her in her brogues and tweeds (if anyone can afford brogues and tweeds these days). The male basketmaker – rather elderly now, in his cords and cap, and his face as brown as his willow, his hands like tools (you know what I mean). BUT, how wrong I was!…’
