Commitment: 10 Board meetings per year. The Marketing and IT Director is also expected to have regular meetings with the Admin Officer, Journal staff and key IT partners.

The Basketmakers’ Association
The Basketmakers’ Association (BA) is a member-led UK-based organisation committed to supporting basketmakers, chairseaters and those interested in related crafts promoting traditional and contemporary approaches, fostering learning, appreciation, and innovation in the crafts. As we enter a critical phase in our evolution, the BA is establishing a new Board to guide our development and ensure a proactive and sustainable future.
In line with our 2025 Position Statement, we are seeking a Marketing and IT Director to join the new Board to help shape and drive forward our bold new organisational direction – one that is inclusive and responsive to the needs of the basketmaking community.
Role Purpose
The Marketing and IT Director will lead the strategic development of the Basketmakers’ Association’s digital infrastructure and communications. You will oversee the our public-facing platforms such as our Journal, E-News and Social Media, drive digital innovation, and support the creation of accessible, inclusive systems that reflect the creativity and diversity of our community. This role will play a vital part in ensuring the success of new income-generating models, membership engagement, and digital delivery.
Key Responsibilities
– Strategic Digital and Marketing Leadership
- Develop and implement a marketing and digital communications strategy aligned with BA’s vision and financial goals.
- Shape the future of BA’s digital presence, including website development, online learning, social media, and CRM systems.
- Support new membership, education, and public engagement initiatives through effective digital storytelling and user-friendly platforms.
– Innovation and Income Generation
- Identify and support new income streams through digital tools—e.g., e-commerce, online workshops, subscription models, and digital archives.
- Enhance BA’s visibility, reach, and relevance to new audiences, partners, and funders.
- Collaborate with the Finance and Legal Directors to ensure digital innovation is aligned with governance and financial strategy.
– Operational Oversight and Collaboration
- Ensure digital systems are secure, inclusive, scalable, and future-proof.
- Manage IT staff as required o Provide strategic support to staff and volunteers implementing marketing, communications, and IT projects.
- Use analytics to inform planning and measure the impact of digital and marketing activities.
Essential Experience & Skills
- Demonstrated experience in digital strategy, marketing, or IT leadership (ideally in a membership, cultural, educational, or nonprofit context).
- Knowledge of digital platforms, CRM systems, websites, and online communication tools.
- Experience developing and delivering digital campaigns and managing brand identity.
- Strong project management and communication skills.
- Commitment to inclusive, accessible, and ethical digital practice.
Desirable
- Experience working with arts, heritage, or craft-based organisations.
- Understanding of digital income generation and audience development.
- Interest in basketry, chairseating or crafts, or cultural heritage (not essential).
