Angela Firth – Bojorrow Baskets
Higher Bojorrow, Garras, Helston, Cornwall, TR12 6LN BiographyBased on the Lizard Peninsula, I create contemporary and traditional willow work rooted in landscape and sustainability. Working from my studio in this extraordinary corner of Cornwall, I grow and harvest much of my own willow from carefully tended willow beds, allowing my practice to remain closely connected to the land and the changing seasons.
After many years of learning traditional basketry techniques and developing my own creative voice, I now weave both functional baskets and sculptural forms. My work ranges from finely structured traditional baskets to more fluid, expressive contemporary pieces, often incorporating natural materials gathered from the coast and countryside around me.
The dramatic cliffs, wild seas, and ever-changing light of the Lizard landscape are a constant source of inspiration that shape both my creative process and the rhythm of my work. There is something deeply grounding in the tactile nature of willow—the sound of weaving, the repetition of movement, and the transformation of freshly harvested materials into pieces that are both beautiful and enduring.
Using materials sourced just a short distance from my workshop, I create work that reflects a strong sense of place, a respect for traditional craft, and a love of natural form.
