Angela Firth – Bojorrow Baskets
Higher Bojorrow, Garras, Helston, Cornwall, TR12 6LN BiographyI am a willow artist based on the Lizard peninsula working sustainably using willow from my own willow beds. I weave both contemporary and traditional baskets taking inspiration from the landscapes and seascapes of my local area. Using willow as my primary medium I craft both contemporary and traditional baskets mixing this with other materials sourced from the natural environment around me. After years of learning traditional skills and working sustainably using my own harvest, I create contemporary and traditional baskets reflecting the beauty of my surroundings. My daily routine of walking and sea swimming on the picturesque Lizard peninsula inspires me. The tactile nature of my work combined with the feel of the willow allows me to unwind and let go of everyday stress - getting lost in the sound of weaving and the rhythmic movements of my craft. Nothing is more satisfying to me than producing beautiful contemporary and traditional baskets from materials harvested just a stone's throw from my workshop. I make a wide variety of baskets and structures and love both the structured patterns of traditional baskets and also free flow sculpture. I love to teach others and pass on skills to future aspiring weavers and regularly run courses in my local area. Private tuition can also be provided for beginner and intermediate weavers.
