Kim Winter
12 Helix Gardens, London, London, SW2 2JP BiographyInspired to learn more about basketry by a family gift of a Japanese bamboo basket, Kim completed the two-year course in basketry at City Lit in London in July 2022. In 2021 she won the contemporary category in the Basketry of the Year competition organised by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.
Kim is editor of the Basketmakers' Association Journal, published three times a year. She also exhibits regularly with the Prism Textiles group and teaches creative basketry classes at Morley College near Waterloo.
Kim works with traditional basketry techniques and mostly soft fibres to create contemporary sculptural pieces. Sometimes these may be functional vessels, but mostly they are artworks – she loves the challenge of pushing the boundaries to make original basketry forms.
