Cecilia Talbot

St. Newlyn East, Newquay, Cornwall, Biography

Working from my studio which sits at the very centre of our Cornish smallholding, close to the North Cornish coast, I work with willow and oak to create a range of lighting, statement baskets and feature wall pieces. Working primarily with my own Cornish grown willow, supplemented on occasion by Somerset rods, and using characterful chunks and staves of oak, each product is one of forethought, focus and attention to detail. Using my hands and the same tools used by basketmakers for hundreds of years my aim is to deliver a refined design that is tactile, draws the eye and yet remains perfectly functional; a feature both ornamentally and in use.

In addition to weaving and creating with wood, I also teach, focusing on bringing the joy of basketmaking to the beginner. My teaching days combine weaving a gathering basket with a literal taste of Cornish culture by feasting throughout the day on handmade Cornish foods supplemented with the best tea and coffee available locally. All information is on my website where bookings can be made.
