Deb Harvey

Evie, Orkney, KW17 2PH Biography

Having lived in Dumfries andGalloway, and now Orkney, I have been spoilt by being surrounded by so many different varieties of willow: Creeping, Grey, Osier, Goat Willow. What can be better than being able to utilise nature's provision to create beautiful, unique and useful objects.I am inspired by the beauty of my surroundings and try to reflect that in whatever I make.I began embarking on my willow journey by enrolling on an online course " My Own 2 Hands". I was interested in resurrecting my long suppressed need to be creative and the idea that we can use our own 2 hands to make what we need for ourselves, increasing our sense of achievement and well-being. By the time I had completed my first 3 projects I was hooked. I love the fact that each and every project  uses natural materials, and feel very privileged to learn techniques and skills that are as old as the history of man.So the joy is to continue to improve techniques, learn new skills and with each new application, I embark on  a new adventure.
