The Truggery

Workshop The Truggery, Coopers Croft, Herstmonceux, East Sussex, BN27 1QL Biography

The Truggery produces traditional Sussex Trugs from our home in Herstmonceux. Our passion is quality - creating Trugs that can be enjoyed for generations to come.

Each Trug is handcrafted using traditional methods and materials - Sweet Chestnut, coppiced sustainably, is used for the rims and handles, with Cricket Bat Willow for the boards and feet. Each piece is shaved by hand by skilled craftsmen, with rims and handles gently steamed to let them bend, and finally nailed together with steel and copper pins and tacks.

Willow from cricket bat production waste and harvest sweet chestnut from sustainability managed coppice woodlands ensures minimal environmental impact and ensures every materials serves multiple purposes.

Built for longevity, not disposal, each trug represents investment in lasting function. Properly maintained, these pieces serve generations, stemming from traditional woodworking techniques and carefully selected materials.
