Makers

Alexander Edward

Belfast, County Down, Biography

I started weaving in 2023 and now grow a sizeable amount of varied, colourful heritage willow and play about with that in mostly round shapes of baskets, holders and occasionally larger pieces. I feel as though I am advancing to the point of feeling pretty confident and competent in my skills.

Since my harvest in 2026 I have become curious on using willow for fencing, a technique not used much here in Ireland, and am aiming to make sculptures and masks as a further goal for the year. I am as passionate about weaving as I am about growing and advocate for the Landworkers Alliance, a small union who protects growers and makers such as ourselves. I have long been a grower of vegetables and am a proud allotmenteer.

I complete workshops independently and through my instagram account. I sell via request and at markets; I am a member of the Lough Neagh Artisans Market group.
