Selina Macarthur
Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire, BiographySelina is a basket maker, favouring small pots. She is also an artist. Most of her designs uses straw plait, a craft practised in Victorian rural Hertfordshire. She loves the challenge of how to best 'show off' the brilliance of it, using skeined willow or willow bark. A bit of colour also adds a modern twist to this craft.
Her preferred method of basketry is twilling and hexagonal plaiting, drawing inspiration (so far) from Jackie Abrams. The baskets from Letterfrack, Ireland, under the guidance of Sophia Sturge have also sparked 'light bulb' moments.
She has exhibited at Espacio Gallery and Hanbury Hall in London. Her crafting 'beauties' have also been on display at Hertfordshire's County Show and Kimpton Art Show.
