Femke winde Lemmens

Biography

Femke has been making willow gathering baskets ever since her backpack making course with Annemarie o’Sullivan; her main practice at the moment is in round and oval strand and stake work, and to integrate in these the weavings of her loom, resulting in strong functional and colorful baskets for carrying sideways or on the back; an ancient context for basketry that has been used in farming across the world since early times. Femke lives on a farm in Suffolk with her husband and two children, some spay sheep and chickens, and maintains several basketry willow beds there. She obtained a masters degree in integrated product design at the Antwerp college for design, which helps her work in understanding making connections between different crafts.

Other interests include drawing, practicing making coracles and Irish folk basketry.
