Jenny Crisp & Issy Wilkes – Willow with Roots

We are a mother-daughter partnership with a shared passion for combining traditional basket making and willow growing with innovative and unique design.

As a basket maker and willow grower for the past 30 years, Jenny Crisp (the mother), brings a wealth of experience having devoted her career to mastering traditional willow weaving skills and techniques. Issy Wilkes (the daughter) on the other hand is trained in designing for theatre, festivals, and events, bringing a unique and imaginative approach to each project.  Together we’ve created Willow with Roots, a company steeped in heritage, devoted to high quality crafts(wo)manship, and unabashedly pushing the boundaries of what willow can do.

There are three ways we produce work. We can collaborate on bespoke projects for private clients or commercial jobs, working to a design brief, we also make small batches of unique pieces that are for sale exclusively on our online shop, and finally we're building a range of statement woven sculptures available for hire.

We love to collaborate with designers and private clients on bespoke projects, working to a brief from concept to completion.

We work individually and together to make our signature baskets and we also take great joy in growing most of our own willow. We sell our baskets and other products, plus cuttings and excess bundles seasonally via our online shop.

With almost 40 years experience of teaching basketmaking, Jenny also teaches one to one & one to two throughout the year.
