Janet Sampson

Janet has over ten years experience of basketmaking, and a key part of her practice is growing and harvesting her own materials to use alongside willows bought from Somerset.

Her making style is mainly influenced by traditional French and Catalan basketry, adapted for a more contemporary look. She also teaches basketry courses for beginners and improvers in North Wales, and hosts international tutors to help promote basketmaking to a wider audience and support cultural exchange.

In June 2024 Janet was awarded third prize by the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers in their biennial Basketry of the Year competition for her contemporary willow backpack built on a Catalan base.
