Jo Sullivan – Willow With Jo
Worcester, Worcestershire, BiographyI first discovered willow weaving during the Covid lockdowns, when I was searching for creative things I could do at home to keep my mind occupied. As things returned to normal, I booked onto my first willow workshop, making a six-foot garden obelisk. It was a bit wonky and wouldn’t stand straight, but it was mine - something I’d made with my own hands. That sense of satisfaction in creating something beautiful and useful from natural materials hooked me instantly.
Over time, I've taught myself more techniques through online videos and in-person workshops, learning how to make everything from reindeers to willow hurdles. As a volunteer for a local community wellbeing group, I began offering free willow activities to bring people together on rainy days. Seeing participants’ faces light up when they discover they can be creative - even after saying “I'll be no good at this” at the start - made me fall in love with teaching.
Today, I run relaxed, beginner-friendly workshops around Worcestershire, introducing people to the joy and mindfulness of willow weaving. My sessions focus on small, achievable projects such as bird feeders, obelisks, mini baskets, and simple decorative sculptures - all designed so complete beginners can take home something they’re proud of. I supply all tools and use sustainably grown UK willow.
I host workshops at various local venues, including beautiful, nature-based settings like Bransford Community Farm. I also provide mobile workshops for community organisations, groups of friends or team-building activities for local companies. Whether it’s for wellbeing, creativity, or simply a fun day with friends, my aim is always the same: to help people relax, connect, and discover the simple pleasure of making something by hand.
