Makers

Mary Crabb

Biography

I am a maker, teacher and maths tutor. I volunteer as a STEM Ambassador for maths.

My initial career was in primary education, class teaching, then specialising in maths, art and music for enrichment and support. For some years, I worked in museum education, developing opportunities for schools and families to interpret, interact and learn within an informal setting through the people, places and objects.

Later I developed my creative practice, beginning with traditional willow basketry skills. This evolved into an experimental working style with a mix of traditional and contemporary materials using adapted basketry and textile techniques.

I am passionate about teaching and learning, so much of my work is sharing skills. It is important to me to make basketry accessible to others.

Alongside sharing my creative work through workshops, talks and exhibiting, I tutor maths. In essence my practice is about maths – education – making.
