Maryann Borch

22349 Twp. Rd. 510, Leduc County, Alberta, T0B 3M2 Biography

I have much to thank Rae Hunter for, but being my basket mentor is one of the best! We live in Alberta, Canada where not that many folks are weaving yet, but there is a growing interest. We hope to foster that community and build it up. So far, most of our baskets use native willows, Bullrushes and cattails, and some purpose-grown willow beds should be viable enough for sharing, beyond cutting shares, to actual weaving amounts by 2022.  Maryann's focus is on functional art that combines locally grown willows into compostable, yet durable, pieces of useable art.  Any activity that brings humans together creating with their hands, soothing in its repetitive gestures, will heal.
