Rachel Hutton

Rachel Hutton is a basketmaker, willow worker, teacher and author based in Sheffield on the edge of the Peak District. With more than thirty-five years’ experience teaching traditional crafts, her work centres on basketry and a practical understanding of willow from growing and harvesting through to preparation and weaving.

Rachel is the main basketry tutor at Musgrove Willows, where she also creates their Help & Advice content, sharing practical knowledge about willow, basketmaking, tools and techniques.

She is the author of Willow to Weave, a comprehensive practical guide to growing, harvesting, preparing and understanding basketry willow, written in collaboration with Musgrove Willows and with a foreword by Mary Butcher MBE.

Alongside teaching and writing, Rachel continues to make baskets and work with willow, with a particular interest in traditional skills, tools, natural materials and passing practical knowledge on to others.
