Rob Knight
BiographyRob Knight is a basketmaker based in Abergavenny, South Wales.
He completed the City & Guilds Level 2 Basketry course at Westhope College in 2021 under Clare Revera, graduating with distinction. Since then, Rob has been making traditional and functional baskets under the name Helyg Crafts, working from his garden workshop.
With a particular interest in the heritage of basketmaking, Rob was awarded a bursary from the Basketmakers’ Association to research and recreate the endangered Tregaron Peat Basket — a distinctive example of Welsh basketry. His work combines practical skill with a passion for preserving and reviving lost traditions.
Rob also runs Helyg Tree Surveys, an arboricultural consultancy providing professional tree inspections and reports for risk management and planning applications. His background in tree care and woodland ecology informs a sustainable, landscape-led approach to his craft.
