Sussex Trug Heritage Centre Limited

Thomas Smith's is the original maker of the famous Royal Sussex Traditional Trug Basket and we carry on his fine tradition today.  We offer various styles and sizes of Sussex Trugs  all of which are made by hand in our own workshops here in Sussex.  Robin Tuppen, our owner, started making Trugs in 1983 and bought the Thomas Smith Trug Shop six years later to prevent it being closed down.  We now make the Royal Sussex, South Down and Wealden Trugs and supply retail and trade customers world-wide.

Robin is a member of the Basketmakers' Association and of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.  As of April 2025, thomas Smith's Trug Shop became a part of the Sussex Trug Heritage Centre Limited, a not-for-profit company, limited by guarantee.s.
