Thomas Smith’s Trug Shop

Thomas Smith's is the original maker of the famous Royal Sussex Traditional Trug Basket and we carry on his fine tradition today.  We offer various styles and sizes of Sussex Trugs  all of which are made by hand in our own workshops here in Sussex.  Robin Tuppen, our owner, started making Trugs in 1983 and bought the Thomas Smith Trug Shop six years later to prevent it being closed down.  We now make the Royal Sussex, South Down and Wealden Trugs and supply retail and trade customers world-wide.

Robin is a member of the Basketmakers' Association and of the Worshipful Company of Basketmakers.  Our company is also a member of Gardenex which is the Federation of Garden and leisure Manufacturers Limited, the organisation for the promotion of export of British gardening products.
