Makers

Tim Palmer

Dun Macbeth, 14 Auldcastle Road, Inverness, Inverness-shire, IV2 3PZ Biography

A maker of long standing living in the North of Scotland, I have absorbed influences and techniques from a variety of tutors and sources. I work mainly in willow and willow bark, but also use birch bark, cane, rush, hazel and roots of various sorts, sometimes dyed using natural dyes. I have an interest in basketmaking as a therapeutic activity, working with patients who have suffered brain injury and, recently, with patients with dementia. An interest in historical baskets has led to making replicas of various fishing baskets from the UK and the Baltic region, and seats for replica or restored WW1 aeroplanes. I enjoy the challenge of repairing old baskets as they often have considerable sentimental value. I teach around the Scottish Highlands, an activity that I enjoy greatly and find very rewarding. Commissions are always welcome as they usually pose challenges!
