50th Anniversary – Chair Seating a talk by Rachael South
By The Basketmakers' Association
Celebrate the Basketmakers’ Association 50th Anniversary with a series of talks
On Thursday 6th March we will be welcoming Rachael South to our series of talks exclusively for BA members.
Join Rachael as she talks about her fascinating life
Time: 7pm – 8pm
I am a third-generation chair caner and seat weaver, taught by my father, who learned the craft from his father.
In my studio, I focus on fine antique and modern restoration as well as contemporary experimental seat weaving. I work with traditional materials, including chair caning, hand-twisted rush seating, skeined willow, seagrass, and Danish paper cord. I also create woven seats on new and restored frames using materials such as leather and wire.
I have undertaken commissions and collaborations with designers and larger companies, and my work has been exhibited in the UK. Teaching is a passion of mine, and I enjoy passing on these skills through classes in both the UK and USA.
Tickets: £5.00
You will receive a link to the Zoom talk a few days before the talk and a recording for your personal use after the event.
If you are unable to attend on the night you can buy a ticket, and we will send you the recording and watch the talk at your leisure.
