Nantgarw China Works & Museum, Tyla Gwyn, Nantgarw, Cardiff, UK

Join experienced willow weaver Sarah Hatton for a one-day workshop making a rectangular Zarzo basket – a contemporary Spanish design originally used in cheesemaking. This eye-catching form features a unique criss-cross weave and is ideal for anyone interested in exploring a more sculptural style of basketry.

During the day, you’ll be guided through the full making process using willow grown in South Wales. You’ll learn how to construct the base frame, weave the signature pattern, and shape and finish the basket – all using a modern approach to willow weaving.

This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with some experience who want to try something different. Tools and materials are provided, along with plenty of tea, coffee and homemade cake – just bring a packed lunch.

Held at Nantgarw China Works Museum, near Cardiff.
