Lip work, basketry & skep making course with Martha Hand

Open to members of Oxfordshire Basketmakers.

This workshop will introduce you to bee skep making which is classified as ‘Endangered’ on The Heritage Crafts Red List.

There are only a few bee skep makers left in the country and by learning this craft you will be contributing to the continuation of this knowledge. Martha will teach you lip work techniques, using straw and binding to make either a basket on a wooden base or a small bee skep. All tools and materials will be provided.

Workshop fee: £115

Materials for the workshop (straw and binding): £20 in cash payable to Martha on the day.

Extra materials: Martha will bring along a small supply of wooden bases, straw and binding if you would like to make another basket or skep at home afterwards, it will be about £25 payable to her on the day in cash.

If you want to keep the awls that you use on the day they are £15 each, payable in cash to Martha.
