Plaited basketry course with Kim Winter

In this nine-week course of evening classes with tutor Kim Winter you will learn how to use the versatile technique of plaiting to create different shaped vessels (straight, diagonal and skewed) and different border finishes. You will add colour and texture through the use of overlays, and also learn about hexagonal plaiting, a more open lightweight weaving technique.

You will be taught the basic techniques using paper, card, and cane. In the second half of the course you will work on your own project, where you will be encouraged to experiment with different materials, such as natural plant materials, old maps, or packaging tape, in your own projects. Any material that is long and flexible can be used, offering great opportunities for recycling.
