Meet the Tutor: ‘What is Twining?’ with Mary Crabb
By Ardington School of Crafts
This free talk will last approximately one hour, with additional time for Q&A with Mary afterwards.
Join Mary Crabb as she offers us an introduction to the art of twining. She will share with you her interest in basketry, show you plenty of examples of her work, and look to answer the question ‘what is twining?’
With a background in teaching and museum education, Mary made her first basket in the year 2000. In the 25 years since she has explored the many types of basketry, with ‘twining’ being the technique she returns to time and again. Mary uses twining to experiment with materials, particularly those used in textile practices, calling what she does ‘textile basketry’.
A wonderful introduction to Mary’s style and passion for her craft, this talk is a perfect way to learn more about twining ahead of our series of in-depth online classes starting in January 2026.
