An Introduction to Twining with Mary Crabb (Online)
By Ardington School of Crafts
An Introduction to Twining with Mary Crabb’ is an online two-day course that will focus on teaching you the technique of twining; a simple off loom weaving process, worked in the hands with a few simple tools. Twining involves the weaving of two active elements around a passive warp to create a dense weft face surface.
This online course is taking place on Thursday 15th January 10am – 12pm & on Thursday 29th January 10am – 12pm.
Starting with how to work the technique, we will then apply what we have learnt to ‘working in the round’ to make a simple round motif. This will aid the learning of all the basics you will need to move on, such as beginning and ending, joining in a new thread, changing colours and how to tension the weave.
In week two, you will take your skills on to weaving a form. This will be led by Mary working from a recipe, with guided stages to make a small two coloured ‘pod’ form, (a pod being a rounded form with an opening), from the base learnt in week one. Mary will finish the class by introducing a simple two-colour pattern and further ideas for ways to finish the ends of the pod.
Tickets cost £87
