Two-Day Willow Basketry Workshop

Join Matilda for a two day basketry workshop in Cooksbridge, East Sussex.

I will be teaching participants how to make a small to medium sized Willow Bag with a leather handle, perfect for foraging of taking to the market.

You will learn how to weave a Catalan base, using a pre made hoop, weave the main body of the basket, concluding with a simple border.

Day 1: we will cover material preparation and selection, complete the base of the basket and positioning of the stakes ready for weaving.

Day 2: will start with weaving a three rod wale to secure the stakes, you will then weave the main body of your piece and finish your bag by weaving a border to secure your weaving. You will the have the opportunity to complete your piece with leather handle.

Whether you are completely new to basket making, or have made a handful of baskets, this workshop is suitable for you. Weaving is a physical process and reasonable hand strength is required.
