Mill Street Arts, 66 Mill St, Eynsham, Witney OX29 4JU, UK

Open to members of Oxfordshire Basketmakers.

Explore the art of expressive basketry in this creative workshop with artist and maker Joanne Lamb.

Working with natural materials, you will be introduced to accessible techniques such as random weaving and soumak, learning how to construct and shape three dimensional forms using moulds. Drawing inspiration from your own seasonal imagery and personal references, you will explore how to translate memory and connection to nature into woven form. Through layering colour, texture and density, you will create a unique sculptural piece that reflects your individual vision. Open to both beginners and experienced makers, this relaxed and supportive session encourages experimentation, skill building and creative confidence, leaving you with a finished work and fresh inspiration to continue your weaving journey.

About your tutor

Joanne Lamb is an Irish artist based in London whose practice centres on woven textiles and sculptural vessels, often incorporating traditional basketry techniques to create one-off works that evoke the cycles and seasons of the natural world. Rooted in a deep connection to landscape and ecology, her work seeks to foster a sense of contemplation and care, suggesting a fairer and more sustainable future through material sensitivity and form. Joanne studied MA Textiles at the Royal College of Art (2022–2023). In 2026 she received the Cockpit Arts Basketmakers’ Award and was shortlisted for the Rabih Hage Craft Bursary and the 7th John Ruskin Prize (2025). She exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in 2024.
