Twined Baskets and Pods
By In Stitches Textiles Courses
In this one-day workshop Polly will introduce you to twined basketry, a method of making baskets found around the world. The defining features of twined basketry are the use of softer, flexible materials, and the density of the weave which supports the structure.
You’ll learn some basic techniques such as getting started, weaving your basket/pod form, adding stakes and weavers, using colour and texture, and simple finishes.
We will look at seed pods as inspiration for creating your work during the day, and Polly will bring examples of more complex forms which have also been inspired by seed pods; she’ll also bring examples of a range of basketry made using twined basketry techniques for you to have a good look at.
Workshop Cost: £95
Includes morning coffee and homemade biscuits, a light seasonal lunch and a pot of tea with a delicious cake. Also included are all the materials you’ll need to make one twined basket or pod.
