Advanced Basketry Exhibition
By City Lit
This exhibition shows students’ work from the ‘Advanced Basketry’ course where learners already experienced in a range of basketry techniques built upon and developed some of these skills and were introduced to new ones not taught on the two-year City Lit Basketry Course.
Students had sessions in willow square work, frame basketry, cordage, looping and netting, and Neolithic braiding/Burkina Faso technique. There was an introduction to seat-weaving, looking at the traditional 6-way pattern in cane and rush seating on stools. There was also a session on making a few useful tools such as bone and wooden needles, threaders and fids.
Held in the City Lit Gallery in central London, the exhibition reflects the depth of learning and exploration achieved over the year.
