The BA awards a number of individual and group bursaries for further study, BA courses, craft or professional development and for research.
These bursaries are funded from membership income and reserves and also from occasional donations and legacies.
The Worshipful Company of Basketmakers’ Charitable Trust also provides funding to the BA annually to support various bursaries including those for attendance at the BA Spring and Autumn Schools and one Traditional Basketry bursary. The annual Walmsley Bursary is awarded directly by the Worshipful Company’s Charitable Trust.
A number of awards are also presented each year at the BA’s Autumn Meeting.
The Bursary and Award year runs from 1 September to 31 August and a full complement of bursaries and awards is available from 1 September each year. Most bursaries have an eligibility criterion of at least two years’ continuous membership of the BA.
There are conditions under which the bursaries are awarded which range from detailed research papers to articles and photos for publication in the BA journal.
