Yarmouth Herring Cran

This DVD newly available again shows Colin Manthorpe making a quarter cran which is the only basket to have been an official measure and had to be made accurately to meet numerous measurements before being passed and branded by the Government Inspector. Made of thick white willow, kubu and palembang, it held about 25 kg of herring. It was the peak of achievement after 5 years’ apprenticeship. Colin made the basket in just 1 hour 20 minutes.
