By The Basketmakers' AssociationCelebrate the Basketmakers’ 50th Anniversary with the 2nd of 3 workshops with Patricia van den Akker of The Design Trust
2 x Mondays 19 May + 2 June 10am – 1pm UK time, with homework in between
Teaching basketry and related skills has become a very popular income stream for many basketry makers! But are you getting enough students? Do you need to work on costing & pricing your workshops better and improving your marketing? This two-session course is for you.
This online course exists of two separate online workshops of 3hours each, with 2 weeks in between for homework and reflection.
The first workshop will be focused around making your training profitable:
- What to teach and to whom, incl. exploration of potential topics, formats (e.g. workshops, 121, retreats) and level of students, and the impact of these decisions on what you can charge.
- You will be creating an annual budget, looking at costs (incl. hourly rate, direct costs, overheads) and income variables, and how to make sure your numbers add up.
- You will do one of Patricia’s favourite exercises – the ‘perceived value exercise’ to help you get creative with what you can teach and charge. Patricia will share loads of practical and thought-provoking ideas to charge at different rates.
- We will finish this first workshop also looking at how to become more confident charging what you are worth.
The second workshop will be focused on marketing your basketry training, especially;
- Why it is essential to become more niche, and how to stand out in the increasingly competitive market of basketry training.
- One of the marketing essentials: ‘People only buy from people they know, like & trust’ or how to build your profile, credibility & trust as a creative and teacher.
- How to turn interest from participants into actual workshop or course bookings
- How to make your website and sales pages do all the hard work for you. Followed by how to get more traffic to your website with specific marketing tips for basketry teachers to get more online bookings incl. email marketing, and SEO/keywords to get found.
This short course is aimed at advanced basket makers who teach already, but want to make that financially more viable with better pricing and marketing to get more ticket sales. It is not appropriate if you have not yet started teaching on a regular basis.
This course has a limit of 50 participants, so that there is more personal attention and support during the workshop from Patricia, and that you get to know some of the other participants too during breakout sessions or group work.
There will be some homework between session 1 and 2, and you will be getting additional downloads and resources, as well as the presentations and recordings. (The latter is available for 3 months, although we highly recommend that you try to join us live)
Tickets: £80.00
This workshop is run in partnership with Patricia van den Akker of The Design Trust – the online business school for designers, makers & creative professionals, which are offered at a highly reduced price to The Basketmakers’ Association members only. Normally these kinds of sessions would cost twice as much.
Please sign up and pay asap for these online workshops. Some workshops have a max. number, so book soon to avoid disappointment. We highly recommend that you try to join sessions live. Can’t make it live? No problem! Each session will be recorded, and participants will get access to the recording & presentation for 3 months.
About one – two weeks prior to your selected training, you will receive an email from The Design Trust with the details of how to register on Zoom to join live. The Basketmakers’ Association will share your contact details and email address with The Design Trust, who will be in touch with you about the online training.
One ticket allows you access to the live training + recording + presentation for one person. Please do not share the recordings or presentations with creatives who have not paid for this training as they are the copyright of Patricia van den Akker. The training is offered at a highly discounted rate to make it affordable for everybody. If you are in a partnership or work with an employee or freelancer, then you can both access the session for one ticket price.
Please note: By purchasing a ticket you agree that your name and email address will be shared with Patricia van den Akker to facilitate this workshop.
