Musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac presents The Travelling Thread, a solo exhibition by pioneering artist Sheila Hicks (b.1934, Hastings, Nebraska).
The exhibition traces sixty years of friendship and creative exchange between Sheila Hicks and historian Monique Lévi-Strauss through their shared passion for textiles. Hicks’ work takes inspiration from, and is displayed in dialogue with, ancient Andean weavings in the museum’s collection. These encounters unfold a history of textiles that crosses borders, civilisations and beliefs.
