Colourful Coiled Baskets with Polly Pollock
By In Stitches
Still time to book!! I’m teaching another course at In Stitches Textiles Courses in Finchampstead near Wokingham in mid-November.
This year’s course will be small colourful coiled basketry techniques, a method of making baskets found around the world.
Coiling is one of basketry’s most versatile techniques offering a multitude of possibilities for making formal baskets right through to abstract sculptural forms.
On this one-day workshop you’ll learn : how to start, a few simple stitches, and ending with simple and more decorative ways of finishing off.
These small baskets make great storage/display for small delicate objects, or grouped together became interesting installations.
We will be working very small – hand-sized baskets – but it’s possible to scale up the materials when making future work to make larger baskets.
Likewise, many alternative materials can be used. I will discuss a range of follow-up possibilities you’ll be able to explore having learned the basics on this course – I’ll also bring a selection of samples with me which illustrate some of the developments possible.
The course fee of £95 includes materials, and, last, but absolutely not least, Hazel provides a superb light lunch and bakes delicious biscuits and cakes – not to be missed!
