Lewis Goldwater – Hazel Whisket

The whisket is a traditional basket made from split hazel in the Welsh Marshes and across mid Wales.  It consists of an oval or round hoop out of bent hazel, split hazel ribs and is woven with long hazel weaver.  There are very few people who know how to make this type of basket and, as such, it is recognised as a critically endangered heritage craft.

Lewis Goldwater is a green wood worker based in Herefordshire.
