Make a coiled bowl
By Lewes Basketry Festival

14 Phoenix Place, Lewes BN7 1JX, UK
This two-day workshop with tutor Kim Winter is suitable for beginners. Coiling is one of the oldest basketry techniques, where material is wrapped and stitched around a core. Using a solid core and cotton yarn, you will learn how to start (the trickiest part!) and change colour to create different patterns. You will also learn how different stitches create different textures, and how to create the shape you want as well as finishing with a neat border. Those with some experience of coiling can experiment with more complex patterns or forms.
This workshop is part of the Lewes Basketry Festival, and attendees will have the opportunity to display their work as part of the student showcase on Saturday 26 October.
