Rush Basket Making

Come and learn how to weave baskets and mats from Somerset grown rushes.

During this workshop we will be weaving with Schoenoplectus lacustris, the common bulrush, which grows wild in slow moving rivers and streams.  The rushes are soft to work with, and a lovely greeny gold colour when newly gathered.  Everyone should complete a small basket and / or table mat to take away with them at the end.

Dates/Times – Saturday 7th November 10:00am – 4:00pm and continuing on Sunday 8th November, 10:00am – 1:00pm.

Venue – The Round Tower at Black Swan Arts

Cost – £115:00 which includes all materials, tuition, use of tools, and teas, coffee, and home-made cake mid-morning.  You will need to bring lunch with you for the first day of the workshop, or treat yourself to something from the Loud Mouth Cafe on site.

Beginners are welcome. Tutor Rebecca Board has over twenty years experience of making baskets and teaching her craft.  She will guide you through the weaves and techniques to create your basket / mat.  Class size will be up to a maximum of six people, so everyone will get plenty of individual attention.
