Rush Workshop with Katrina Green

By Oxfordshire Basketmakers
-
Mill Street Arts, 66 Mill St, Eynsham, Witney OX29 4JU, UK

Open to members of Oxfordshire Basketmakers.

In this workshop you will explore the strength and versatility of English bulrush and make a few placemats or a bread basket. During the workshop you will learn a selection of rush weaving techniques and be guided to make your projects to your own design. Techniques include different starters (check weave, spider and windmill) and different weaves (pairing, chain pairing and waling) as well as using a forma and adding a border.

The varied techniques you learn can be carried forward after the workshop and are applicable to any soft plant fibre weaving – materials such as yellow flag iris, cattails, daffodil stems offer different colours and textures.

Suitable for beginners or intermediate rush weavers interested in this design.

All equipment will be provided.

Rush is a soft material that is worked wet and is a little muddy so wear appropriate clothing and bring an apron if you wish.
