The Oxfordshire Basketmakers are helping to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Basketmakers’ Association by hosting a Big Weave event.

The Big Weave is a social collaborative project where BA members together with local groups across the UK will create 50 frame baskets, promoting co-operation and friendship.

The BA has commissioned makers to produce 50 frames and ribs. These will be sent all around the UK.

We would like to welcome all OB members, and any BA members who would like to take part, to meet up to weave a few rows using your chosen materials, we will then pass the baskets on to the next group.

Any materials can be used; home-grown willow, harvested rush, cordage made from recycled or foraged materials. You could add a handle, or not.

We will document contributions in a notebook that will be passed on with the basket and then go into the BA archive.

You are very welcome to bring along any of your unfinished projects to work on too and/or bring along spare materials to share.

You are welcome to stay for just a short while or if you want to stay all day then do bring a packed lunch as there are no shops near the Hall.

This is an informal workshop, there won’t be any formal teaching on the day.

If you are able to contribute a pound or two on the day to help cover costs that would be great.

Please RSVP to [email protected] so we have an idea of numbers for tea/coffee and of course if you can bring a cake along to share!

Once all the baskets are finished, they will be showcased at the BA Summer Meeting on June 28th at: The Lady Margaret Hall, Worksop, Nottinghamshire S80 3NB
