Twined basketry – all levels

By Kim Winter

Morley Gallery, 61 Westminster Bridge Road, London SE1 7HT, UK

Twined basketry uses soft materials – two active weavers are woven around vertical warps, or stakes. Tutor Kim Winter will show how you can use a wide range of materials, from natural cordage and vines to wire and baler twine. Weaving can be close, which produces a strong, durable basket, or more open, which results in a more open, flexible construction. You can also create pattern by changing colour.

Beginners will learn different types of starts, how to increase and decrease and change colour. Students with previous experience of twining can work on their own projects with guidance from the tutor.

The course runs one evening a week (Tuesday) for six weeks at Morley College in London, near Waterloo. For more information and to book go to https://morleycollege.ac.uk/courses/short-courses/creative-basketry-twining-all-levels/
