Twining Workshop

Twining with plant fibres consists of two pieces of material (the ‘weavers’) moving around, and crossing over between, some unmoving elements (stakes, spokes, uprights). If this was on a loom they would be the equivalent of the warp (uprights) and weft (weavers).The weavers move in a spiral around the uprights and at a certain point a piece of magic takes place and the shape turns from a square into a circle.

A combination of strokes in a specific sequence creates the finished piece. There are many questions and options to consider: direction of travel, choice of material, how to begin, what sort of pattern, with or without a handle?
