Members of The Basketmakers’ Association based in the United Kingdom can purchase product and public liability insurance through The Basketmakers’ Association for the very reasonable price of £26.50 per annum.

Who is eligible?

Qualifying members are any current member of The Basketmakers' Association that:

  • is domiciled within the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man
  • has fully paid up their membership
  • does not trade as a Limited Company, Limited Liability Partnership, Community Interest Company or any other similar incorporated entity
  • does not have any employees on a full-time or part-time basis or engages any freelance workers on a labour only basis
  • does not trade out of a permanent retail premises, other than a market stall or similar type arrangement

provided that they remain eligible for cover under this policy under the terms of their membership and their membership period commences during the period of insurance and is for a maximum duration of 12 months.

  • The display and sale of baskets and related crafts including sculpture, chair-seating (including repair work) and hurdle making
  • Fence making
  • The teaching and demonstration of basketmaking, chair-seating and similar craftmaking skills.

Who provides the insurance?

Product and Public liability insurance for eligible members of The Basketmakers’ Association Ltd is arranged by Howden Insurance Brokers Limited trading as Hencilla Canworth, a specialist insurance intermediary for the creative sector. The policy provides £10,000,000 of Product and Public liability insurance for its qualifying members.

The policy is underwritten by Hiscox Insurance Company Ltd and is for members of The Basketmakers’ Association Ltd as a benefit of membership for qualifying members, subject to the terms, conditions and exclusions of the policy.

How do I get it?

You have to be a member to qualify and it can be added at the time of joining or at a later date.
