Introduction to Twining with Mary Crabb (part five: Circle Starts)
By Ardington School of Crafts
An Introduction to Twining with Mary Crabb’ is an online two-part course. This online course is taking place on Thursday 21st May 10am – 12pm & on Thursday 4th June.
This class introduces an alternative start with a circle opening. It draws on skills learnt throughout the series so far to develop ideas further.
In week one, we will be looking at how to create a circle start through the use of a ring. Mary will illustrate different rings and how they can used as well as how to make a ring of your own, with a range of materials. Techniques for attaching warps to the rings will be demonstrated, with alternative methods depending on how you wish the start to look. We will be considering whether the warps are worked flat, with or without edges, or how the warps could generate a form or a tube. Towards the end of the class, you will be invited to join in to make a flat warp on a ring sample.
In week two, we will learn a more complex start without a ready-made ring. Mary will demonstrate how to set up a line as an anchor for the warps, which can be brought together into a circle. The next stage will be to watch how to set up a ring of twining without an anchor line by using a board and pins to assist! Mary will show how to do this, for you to try later, if you wish.
Tickets cost £87
