2 Day Bee Skep Workshop with Tina Cunningham
By Ruthin Craft CentreA beautiful classic shaped Skep is not just wonderful as a talking point in the home conservatory or garden, but is a practical house for a stock of Bees. The Straw bee-hive is hand made in the traditional medieval shape using coiled straw in a method called ‘lippi’ work. Skep’s were also used in the origins of Bee-keeping to catch swarms. This craft has been handed to Tina by her father and she hopes to pass the tradition on to the next generation. The workshop is part of Ruthin Craft Centre’s Basketry Symposium of workshops and other events accompanying the ‘Basketry: Rescuing, Reviving, Retaining’ exhibition, open until 12 January 2025. The symposium is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
