Harvesting Bulrush on Lough Erne
By Stephen McQuaid
A Traditional Craft Participation Event organised by Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark.
Admission is Free.
Booking is required.
Participants must be over the age of 18.
Escape for a while to the quiet lakeside and experience first-hand a once common craft.
Join us for a day of bulrush harvesting on the shore of Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. We will travel by canoe from an outdoor activity centre to a suitable, nearby rush bed and spend the morning cutting and bringing ashore our rush. After lunch we will sort, grade and bundle our bulrush in preparation for you to bring home and dry.
Canoes, wet-suits, buoyancy aids (i.e. life jackets) and all tools needed will be provided on the day.
If you haven’t been out in a canoe before don’t worry, we will have a qualified canoe instructor with us.
If you have mobility issues please consider carefully whether this activity is for you as we will be travelling by canoe and then working in the water and on rough ground.
We will break for lunch at one o’clock. There is a cafe at the activity centre which will be serving lunch, or bring a packed lunch with you.
To book your place email [email protected]. Places are limited to eight participants per session and will be issued on a first come, first served basis.
This event is organised by Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark Community Team, and Geopark Ambassadors.
