I recently delivered a 2 day workshop for the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. They always ask for a basket making course, with an art based premis. As any students who have been on my courses know I love the work of Irish weaver Joe Hogan! One of the most famous basket weavers in the world Joe has re-popularised Irish Basket weaving.

I jumped at the chance to share some of his ethos and unique basket making forms. It went so well I’ve decided to run this 2 day workshop again at my studio in Todmorden.

Over the two days you’ll create a beautiful unique piece, purely sculptural or functional too.

To achieve this basket will require patience and some hand strength, you’ll also get to use some other woodworking tools too depending on the style of basket you make. I have lots of example designs to choose from and you’ll have the opportunity to weave with other materials such as bark into your finished piece.

The Willows tea and coffee house on the ground floor of the building serving the finest ethical rainforest alliance coffees and teas plus a large rotation of cakes and simple savories is to keep you going over the course.

Notes:

No prior experience needed but you must have good mobility in hands & feet & be able to stand whilst working.

Please wear old (non dangly) clothes, covered toe shoes (no sandals) & little or no jewellry.

Level- beginner/ intermediate
